Ingredients:
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/4 cup diced onions
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1/4 cup milk
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
- 1 large onion, sliced
- 2 cups beef broth
- 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup water
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions:
In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, diced onions, egg, salt, black pepper, and milk
Mix well
Divide the mixture into equal portions and shape them into oval or round patties
Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat
Add the patties and cook until browned on both sides
Remove from the skillet and set aside
In the same skillet, add the sliced onions and cook until they become soft and caramelized
Sprinkle flour over the onions and stir to combine
Cook for a couple of minutes to get rid of the raw flour taste
Gradually add the beef broth and water to the skillet, stirring constantly to create a smooth gravy
Bring to a simmer
Return the hamburger patties to the skillet and let them simmer in the gravy for about 15-20 minutes, or until cooked through and the gravy has thickened
Season with salt and pepper to taste
Serve the hamburger steaks with onions and gravy hot over mashed potatoes or rice
